DAVE BOOTHROYD

MIX ENGINEER
& CO-PRODUCER
My name's Dave and I'm not here to impose my sound on your music. I'm here to interpret what you’re already trying to say and make sure that what comes out of the speakers feels deliberate, honest, and true-to-you.
My goal as a mixer is to live inside the your head (figuratively). That means easier communication, less stress, and a process that feels a lot more fun.
I’m drawn to things that hit hard BOTH emotionally and physically:
-
Bold, in-your-face elements (especially vocals)
-
Hefty rhythm sections that make your body
move before your brain realises it
-
Hooky melodies that stick with you after the song ends
-
Fun moments of ear candy that surprises and keeps your fans coming back for more
-
Anything that blends a strong pop sensibility with emotional intent
If that’s what you care about too, we’re going to have a good time together.
"Dave has worked on a number of my personal tracks and his talent shines through every time. He knows what a mix needs and responds effortlessly to revisions, yet also throws in ideas which take each track into new territory. When I’m writing music, it’s great to know that Dave will be there at the end of the process."
Joe Johnson - (Shed 7)

"Dave's instinct for what a mix needs is excellent, he has the ability to elevate a track while staying true to its essence. Every project we’ve worked on together has benefited from his creativity, whether through subtle refinements or new ideas. Dave’s passion and professionalism make every step of the process seamless, which shines through in the end result."
Alex (Guitarist) - The Bastard Sons

REAL PEOPLE WHO HAVE NICE THINGS TO SAY...

"Working with Dave feels like collaborating with an old friend—comfortable, yet always inspiring. He gives you the space to explore your own creativity while thoughtfully adding his own, resulting in a final product that reflects your vision and showcases his meticulous attention to detail."
Lewis (Vocalist) - Sleuth Gang

"Working with Dave is an absolute joy. His attention to feel and detail is so beautifully natural and when required, he’s brimming with ideas to get you to the magic. So many colours on this chaps pallet. Always a pleasure and honour"
Chris Helme
My mum tells a story about when I was a baby, before I could even speak, I would hum parts of “You Can Call Me Al" by Paul Simon while she tried to get me to sleep in the crib. I was an odd little music baby, but at least it wasn’t "50 Ways To Leave Your Lover".
I spent my late teens through my early thirties touring as a drummer in pop-punk and skate-punk bands, playing across the US, Europe, and the UK, and releasing records with labels in Japan, Italy, and back home.
Somewhere along the way, I fell in love with producing & mixing... pulling music apart, piecing it back together, and figuring out how to make it surprise me.
I still get the same creative buzz I got from being in a band, but now I get to do it with artist from all over the world.
I've mixed and produced records for artists like Chris Helme (The Seahorses), Joe Johnson (Shed Seven) and Stay Free (produced by Jason Perry), and I've worked as an assistant engineer on projects with Blink-182, Busted, Don Broco, Bring Me The Horizon and Romesh Dodangoda, and a bunch of others
